National NAIDOC Week is held across Australia in the first week of July every year as a way to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Not only is it a great opportunity for everyone to learn about the culture and history of First Nations cultures and histories, but it's a great way to show your support for your local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities by participating in activities and events.

The theme of National NAIDOC Week 2022 is 'Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!', which is a challenge to keep pushing and rallying to secure institutional, structural, collaborative, and cooperative reforms while celebrating all those who have driven and led change over generations. In the spirit of getting up, standing up, and showing up, here are some things you can do to show your support for National NAIDOC Week 2022.

Get involved

With countless local community events being held across Australia during NAIDOC Week, getting involved and sharing in the celebrations is a great way to show your support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture

Not only is it important to learn and understand how we got to where we are, but it's equally important to dive even further into the past. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have a rich culture and history dating back tens of thousands of years, and knowing about this past history helps strengthen our relationships with them going forward.

Everyone has a part to play during NAIDOC Week and its theme of championing institutional, structural, collaborative, and cooperative change. It's a never-ending journey and each role we play helps build understanding and respect for the histories, cultures, and futures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
