With the New Year in full swing, now’s the time to set your resolutions. Instead of just making do with the same old goals that you never seem to accomplish year after year, we’ve provided you with some practical tips to ensure that 2023 is your most productive year yet!

Be specific

The generic goals of losing weight and eating healthier are some of the most common goals that people seem to set each year. But these can be forgotten by March as they aren’t specific enough to actually be implemented into a person’s routine. This is why when you are setting goals it is better to be specific: instead of saying I’m going to eat healthier, include a certain amount of vegetables into your diet and set a goal to only eat takeout twice a month.

Find your why

Having a strong reason why you’re chasing after your goals can mean everything, giving you more motivation and persistence to achieve them in the long run. You’ll be more inclined to stick with your goals when times get tough or when obstacles are being thrown your way.

Make a plan

In order for your goals to succeed, set out a concrete plan. Include the specific steps you want to take, making sure each step is achievable and timely, so that progress can be made and celebrated. This will help you keep accountability, and having smaller goals to tick off will also help to keep you motivated to achieve more.

Practice patience

Your goals won’t magically happen after a few days, so it’s vital that you’re realistic and patient when it comes to the results. You may have maintained unhealthy or undesirable habits for some time, so it’s going to take a while for them to go away. There’s no real-time frame in getting the goal achieved, and while a New Year’s resolution might seem like it has to be completed within the single year, it actually doesn’t. These goals can take a few months to achieve, a few years, or be lifelong. The process towards achieving your goals is a journey that you may just come to appreciate.

Build up resilience

If your motivation to achieve your goals begin to sink, remember and reiterate your reason for starting. If you’ve faced setbacks and your current plan isn’t working, then reassess and change certain aspects of your plan to allow for a better chance of success.

Stay safe this holiday period

If you’re heading out to a party, make sure you stay safe. Whether that’s by nominating a designated driver, drinking responsibly or by ordering an Uber, ensure you get home safe and well.
