It can be hard to know what to do when supporting someone through tough times. Friends, family and colleagues are a crucial and necessary support mechanism for someone who is struggling. If you're concerned about someone you can:
Let them know you care and support them.
Treat them with respect and dignity.
Talk with them about their feelings.
Suggest that speaking to someone they feel comfortable with, their GP or other mental health professional, may help them feel better.
Offer assistance (i.e. find someone they trust talking with and make the appointment or arrange the meeting, and if they wish, be with them at the time).
While being someone else's support is important, remember to care for yourself too. Here are some ways you can ensure you're looking after yourself:
Give yourself permission to have time to de-stress and unwind. Take a break and do something you truly enjoy.
If you're becoming emotionally drained, ask for help. The Sonder team are here to help support and guide you.
Carve out time to stay physically active - even if you think you don't have time. This will help ensure you feel energised and is great for your mind too.
Take some time to be mindful and focus on the here and now. This gives your mind time to slow down and give yourself a break from worrying about the past or the future.
If you have any questions or need extra support, we're here to help you anytime, in any language. Simply start a chat with us via the home screen of the Sonder app.
